Dorothy Harvey “Sackie”, of Brielle, New Jersey, a loved and treasured Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and Sister, passed away at her home Sunday, May 17, 2020. Dorothy was born December 13, 1936 at Fitkin Hospital in Neptune, New Jersey to Acy and Pearl Harvey and was the youngest of five children (Fred, Ollie, Pearl, Mattie, Dorothy). She graduated from Manasquan High School Class of 1954. Eventually she would work at Merten’s Realty in Asbury Park and ultimately became a fixture in the Asbury Park Municipal Court system where she helped countless people daily and with a beautiful and warm smile. Until her death, she remained a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Manasquan.

Dorothy was a devoted mother who dedicated her life to her three children, Joanne Elmore; June Harvey; and Joel Harvey. She loved, cherished and held close every moment with her son-in-law Stanford, daughter-in-law Angela and five grandchildren, Marcus, Toni, Joel, Louis and Janaya. She was lovingly called “Aunt Sackie” by each of her many nieces and nephews, whom she adored and relished being a part of their lives.
Dorothy was a great cook and would love to socialize at home with card games and cookouts. She was a big fan of NFL football and Major League Baseball and would love to recap the week’s games. She was a fan of fashion and always had a fresh “Sunday hat”. She had a very magnetic personality and made friends everywhere she went. The highlight of her days included receiving visits from family and friends and making daily phone calls, which would last for hours. Sackie was a rare combination of hardness and tenderness. Until they see her again, she will always be missed and loved by her children, her grandchildren, her nieces and nephews, and her in-laws.

Arrangements are under the care of Orender Family Home for Funerals, Manasquan, NJ. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at a future date. All services were private. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle. In lieu of flowers, please donate a food item to your local food bank. To send condolences to the family please visit

It has been more than 70 years that I knew Dorothy, We became friends and graduated from Brielle school in 1950. Through the years we would meet up, laugh and remember our times together. With so few of the graduating class left I feel safe in saying Dorothy was the smartest in class.
To all of her family, you were blessed to have had her in your lives. Gods Blessings from
Gail (Stires) Herbert

I don't know Ms. Dorthy personally, but I can tell that she must have been a great mother and person through the friendship I have with one of her son's (Joel Harvey). The way she raised him, his character, and persona has to reflect on the type of person she was I'm sure. I send my condolences to all of the family, and may she RIH!!! God Bless you all.

Joanne, June, Joel,
Love to you all and heartfelt sympathy at the loss of your mother, my Aunt. I know it's hard when we lose our mothers! We expect them to be there always because they always have been. We all grew up together, a block apart and had many good times with each other and with family. I'm going to miss Dottie! Every time I saw her, I saw Mom and it just touched my heart. Dottie was always full of life and she always had something funny to say. I will always remember the barbecues at 618 and the family love and connections we share. Thank God for family. We are here for you. May God's peace and comfort keep you and may every memory you have of Dottie always make you smile.
Your Cuz,
