Catherine (Kay) LaPlaca, 94, of Hillsborough, NJ passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 4, 2020. She was born July 25, 1925 in Newark, NJ and resided there until moving with her husband and children to Union, NJ. Kay and her family later moved to Warren Township, NJ where she worked for First National Bank of Central Jersey in Somerville, and then for the municipality of Warren Township. Upon her retirement, she relocated to Bound Brook, NJ and finally to her most recent residence in Hillsborough, NJ.
Kay enjoyed dancing, music, old movies, sewing, decorating, cooking, baking, and most of all, spending time with her friends and family. She especially cherished summers at the Jersey shore with her entire family. Kay was a warm, friendly, and welcoming host. She loved hosting holiday gatherings and backyard barbeques, often spending hours in the kitchen, along with her mother and sisters, preparing generous amounts of food and deserts. The neighborhood kids were always welcome to play in the LaPlaca yard. She would often provide welcomed breaks from the hot sun and competitive sports by serving cold refreshments and snacks, always with a big smile. The menu included everything from peanut butter sandwiches to pasta fagioli.
Kay is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Louise Zappulla of Warren, NJ, and her sister, Josephine Anderson of Union, NJ. Catherine is survived by her daughter Carol Porter and her husband Richard of Naalehu, Hawaii, her son Charles LaPlaca and his wife Cynthia of Wall, NJ, her grandchildren Justin and Evan Porter, Charles and Joseph LaPlaca, great granddaughter Morgan Porter, sister Mary Capriglione of Warren, NJ, and brother Matthew Zappulla and his wife Marilyn of Middlesex, NJ.
